Dr. Oliver S. Wang is an Associate Professor of Sociology at California State University, Long Beach, teaching courses in popular culture, social issues and race/class/gender. He holds a PhD in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley.
His research focuses on different forms of popular culture and their role in identity/community formations and social relations. He is the author of Legions of Boom: Filipino American Mobile DJ Crews of the San Francisco Bay Area (Duke University Press, 2015). He has also written on Asian Americans and hip-hop, the social geography of mobile food trucks, the retro-soul music community and the “Linsanity” phenomenon.
